COVID-19 is a highly infectious respiratory illness caused by the SARS-CoV-2 virus. The disease first emerged in December 2019 in Wuhan, China and has since spread globally, leading to a pandemic.

The most common symptoms of COVID-19 include fever, cough, and fatigue. Other symptoms may include shortness of breath, muscle aches, sore throat, loss of taste or smell, diarrhea, and headache. Some individuals may also be asymptomatic, meaning they do not exhibit any symptoms.

COVID-19 is primarily spread through respiratory droplets when an infected person talks, coughs, or sneezes. The virus can also be spread by touching a surface contaminated with the virus and then touching one's face. The best way to prevent the spread of COVID-19 is by practicing good hygiene such as washing hands frequently, wearing masks, avoiding close contact with others, and staying home when sick.

There are currently several vaccines available that have been shown to be highly effective in preventing severe illness and hospitalization from COVID-19. However, the pandemic continues to impact individuals and communities around the world and efforts to control its spread are ongoing.
